I currently live, teach, study, and perform in the Denver Metro Area in Colorado. I’ve studied classical piano, various band instruments in middle school and high school, and I have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from Metropolitan State College of Denver (now a university) and the University of Northern Colorado.
I’ve has been teaching private music lessons since 2005. My grandmother Ruth Bland, a church pianist and choir leader, started me on my musical path with piano lessons. From 2012-2015, I served as the minister of music at Sixth Avenue United Church of Christ in Denver, CO.
Looking at my repertoire list, my teacher noted that I am “committed to contemporary music,” and I guess I am! My roles include Madame Flora in The Medium and Adele in the world premiere of Russell Guyver and Brian Luedloff’s electronic opera, Opera-tion World Peace.
Last spring, I was the mezzo soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the University of Northern Colorado chorus and orchestra. In November, I sang the contralto part in Lotte Lehmann’s In A Persian Garden. In December 2015, I will be featured in concert with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, conducted by popular Colorado Public Radio broadcaster David Rutherford.
I am planning a concert of music from anime and video games arranged for voice and piano, with Grace Asquith as part of Chamber Ensemble Con Grazia’s Little Noon Music series in February 2015.
I have a vocal technique blog: Tone Deaf to Diva, and in the near future, I hope to develop products to help people sing the way they’ve always wanted.
